What is African Leadership?
It is a non-profit Christian education organization that trains pastors and Church leaders and funds relief and development projects in those leaders' African communities.
African Leadership was founded by former Southwestern District Sales Manager, Larry Warren. Since Larry's conception of making his vision reality, the ties that bind The Southwestern Company and African Leadership have remained tight.
Student Dealer Involvement
The objective for this charitable outreach with student dealers is to encourage them to be of service to others. It is Southwestern's responsibility in training young people to set an example allowing exposure to opportunities which make a difference in another person's life. This follows our mission of developing young people.

"Sharing and giving back is simply a further statement of the Southwestern mission. Those students in the summer selling program have an opportunity, whereas most students in Africa do not even have a job. Southwestern has provided students an avenue to respond to a broad challenge and the encouragement of character to make this partnership available. Giving back is part of being successful by expanding their world view and expanding what they can do in Africa."
Larry Warren, President and Founder - African Leadership

The Mocha Club / Fundraising
For the price of two Mocha's a week, lives can be changed! The club exists for two main purposes: 1) to fund the relief and rehabilitation work with African Leadership partners; 2) to be evangelical to young people by involving them in the work that God has empowered his followers to do. Hundreds of student dealers participate.
The student dealers have expressed their gratitude and appreciation to Southwestern for offering the opportunity for them to be donors. Gifts from $5 to more than $1000 were made by college students since 2005 - for a total of over $150,000!
Daycare Project
In October of 2006, a delegation of nine Southwestern student managers and young Sales Managers participated in a two-week mission trip to South Africa. Their purpose was, through African Leadership, to build a daycare and worship with the children and leaders in that community.
They were able to convert a delapidated daycare with room for only 8-10 children, into a renevated daycare large enough to hold 30-40 children. Also while in South Africa, the group visited an HIV/AIDS center, the Living Hope Center, where they built a set of stairs and filled in cracks in the walls.

Auction - Darfur Relief
During the annual Great Recruiters Seminar in Nashville, Tennessee on January 2007, Southwestern held a first of its kind auction. Promoted prior to the event, students knew to bring their checkbooks or cash to help save ravaged and war-torn Darfur.
Bidding was fierce as students bid on such items as "Dinner with Dan", which was coveted mealtime with our now President of The Southwestern Company. In total over $3000 was raised and then matched by former President Jerry Heffel for a total donation of over $6,000.
Summary
By training the youth of today, we create the leaders of tomorrow. Southwestern student dealerrs are exposed to values and morals that will last a lifetime. It's what we do. It's what we have done since 1868.
